Farmworker's Appreciation Fiesta

Last Thursday I got to spend the afternoon in Genola, Utah. If you don't know where that is, don't worry. I think that the only people aware of Genola's existence are those 10 people who actually live there. To say it's out in the middle of nowhere is kind of an understatement. So my whole purpose in making the trek out to Genola was to to promote good dental hygiene to the migrant farm workers' children. I also measured people's blood pressure. While taking their blood pressure wasn't so difficult (any monkey could have done it...all you had to do was stick their arm in the cuff and push start. They could have done it themselves.), interpreting the results of the test was a little trickier. Their blood pressure would pop up on the screen and then they'd look to me, as if I'm some doctor or something, and ask me what it meant. Heck if I know. Most of the time I just told them they were healthy but to make sure they don't eat too much candy or McDonalds. Ha. Oh well. Sounds like good advice, right? All in all, it was such a fun night. AMAZING mexican food, crazy kids swinging at a piñata, clothing drive, and a raffle for turkeys and all the trimmings for a complete Thanksgiving meal. Here are some pictures I took of the event.

Group Photo

Thought you might enjoy seeing this.
I had a great time getting to know you during orientation and am looking forward to seeing you all very soon.
Let me know if you all want to plan something (a social event or service project) before our next member meeting.

"Our true home is in the present moment.
To live in the present moment is a miracle.
The miracle is not to walk on water.
The miracle is to walk on the green Earth in the present moment,
to appreciate the peace and beauty that are available now.
Peace is all around us-
in the world and in nature-
and within us-
in our bodies and our spirits.
Once we learn to touch this peace,
we will be healed and transformed.
It is not a matter of faith;
it is a matter of practice."
